As this wonderful year prepares for its final curtain, we here at The PlayGround Theatre have so much to be thankful for!! The year 2010 has brought us so much good news! Here are just a few of the things we will celebrate as we look back on this banner year, which covered the end of our 6th season and the opening of our 7th year of magic:
- KIDS!! No b
ig surprise here, but we are so very grateful for all the children who have passed through our doors. We love it that so many students are able to see our productions for free with our program! We really love that we have the opportunity to visit the students at their schools in our InSchool program. And we couldn’t be more happy – and more proud – that our AfterSchool and Saturday programs, and our mini-camps and Summer Musical Theatre Camp, continue to grow and evolve. - FAMILIES!! Our weekend programs are growing by leaps and bounds – just this past Sunday, the house was PACKED! We are so grateful that so many families are taking the time to explore live theatre together.
- PARTIES!! We have had soooo much fun this year! Starting with our Shadow Theatre performances last spring – which gave both hearing-impaired and hearing audiences the chan
ce to experience a show in American Sign Language – and continuing through a super fun fall of hosting a GLEE pre-screening and a toast to Miami arts legend Charlie Cinnamon, we have had such a good time exploring the intersection of theatre and a good time with friends – both old & new! - WOOHOO!! It’s been so nice that people out there have noticed all the fun we’ve been having – and that it’s really good fun! The Miami Herald recognized our Artistic Director, Stephanie Ansin, as one of the “Top 20 Under 40” South Floridians making a contribution to the arts. And the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation just granted us $100,000 as part of the Knight Arts Challenge for our next innovative, cross-cultural production, The Red Thread, which opens in April. The grant will help us to foster greater understanding of Chinese culture.
But in some ways these “accomplishments” are little more than highlights. Here at The PlayGround, we have so very much to be thankful for in our day-to-day lives: we are grateful for fine technical and professional staff members who ensure that every detail is in place; for actors who are willing to go deep into their own hearts to make a child laugh; for a creative team that sees nothing but the opportunity to make great stories into absolute magic. And we are so very glad that YOU have chosen to be a part of all this!!
WE ARE GRATEFUL FOR YOU.
For your laughter, your tears, your presence, and your support.
May 2011 bring you nothing but blessings!!
(And we’ll look forward to hearing all about them at The Love of Three Oranges and The Red Thread!)
